Jantar Mantar

Jantar Mantar is a collection of astronomical instruments built in the 18th century by the Maharaja of Jaipur, Maharaja Jai Singh II, who was a keen scholar of astronomy. The site is one of the five astronomical observatories built by the king across India, and the one in Jaipur, Rajasthan, is the largest and most famous. The name Jantar Mantar comes from the Sanskrit words "Jantar" (instrument) and "Mantar" (formula), which together mean "an instrument for measuring the heavens."
